FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
JOHNSON AUTO BODY
A: A "Total Loss is a vehicle that has been damaged and the cost of repair is higher than the value of that vehicle! As a rule of thumb the insurance company will repair the vehicle as long as the cost of repair will not exceed 75% of value. The remaining percentage is salvage value or the amount that the insurance company will recover from a salvage yard. If the vehicle is determined to be a "Total Loss" the Insurance company will compensate the vehicle owner with an adjusted retail value plus sales tax for a State of Connecticut loss. The insurance company's "Total Loss Department" will contact the vehicle owner with a settlement offer. With your permission, we will release your vehicle to the insurance company. The insurance company will pay Johnson Auto Body for the towing and storage charges before they pick up the vehicle for transport to the salvage yard. In most cases you will not receive payment until the insurance company receives title and the vehicle is towed to the salvage yard for final inspection!
